Tyler, what is the story behind flibbertigibbet? What a strange word, never heard of it. Or maybe it is because i am dutch, it sounds like a Harry Potter spell :)
Flibbertigibbet is a Middle English word referring to a flighty or whimsical person, usually a young woman. In modern use, it is used as a slang term, especially in Yorkshire, for a gossipy or overly talkative person. As a side note, it is used to describe Maria (in the lyrics of the song Maria) in Rogers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
You’re welcome. Thank you for asking. I knew it was in the lyrics of Maria, but did not know the exact meaning. I decided to look it up after you asked. I love learning, too! 🖤
