Today, dear friends, happens to be the 42nd anniversary of the day I was born, which means, this is what I consider my golden year, as Douglas Adams believed that 42 was the answer to “life, the universe, and everything.” That’s gotta mean something right?
So, in honor of that, I’d love to give you rad folks a gift, and that gift is a new Typewriter Series poem that no one has read yet, absolutely no one, well that’s not true, I think Sarah has heard me read it, but NO ONE else. Woah. For all you paid subscribers (thank you, again and again thank you for helping keep the lights on) you know that the Typewriter Series poems and the deep dives into them, are a subscriber perk, a little gift for supporting this place. Today, I’m going to give it to everyone, as a little birthday gift from me to you. Going forward, as mentioned, the poems and the deep dives will be behind the little subscriber line, as a way to hopefully entice more of you to join us in this community. Anyway, onward.
I really like this one, to be honest, it feels like a self-portrait in a million different ways, and it all began with one line, the line that begins the poem.
If minds had racks, tall as trees stacks and stacks, and thoughts were books, would you understand?
I had that line rattling around for ages, not knowing why or what to do with it, especially the very first line in the stanza. Finally I jotted it down, and the rest of the poem fell out. We are, after all, the combinations of what we read, what we spend our time studying, which curiosities we allow ourselves the space to explore.
Personally, I am a lot of non-fiction, a lot of mystery, poetry, and the wide wonder of the world around us. I am the maps, I am the haiku, I am the random facts about sea creatures or deep space. I am all these things, wrapped up with a little humor, a little fantasy, and a lot of love.
Here it is, and I hope you like this poem, I hope it finds you smiling today, and I hope, in the comments, you might tell me what section of your mind-library, you’d be most likely to found in.
For those of you who aren’t yet part of this Chasers of the Light Signal Fire Community, if my birthday isn’t the perfect time to join us, when is? Click the link, give me the gift of your presence in this beautiful place, and in doing so, give yourself the best gift ever…all the magical wonderful people already in the community, waiting for you.
I am in love with this new poem. I felt like I was drawn in, suddenly wandering through shelves of books, curious about all that makes up a life. You'd find me wandering back and forth between poetry and eastern spirituality, as I learn how to accept what is and be at peace.
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! It's a freaking blessing that you are here on this earth, sharing every part of your soul. I hope you are surrounded by love and joy today!
Happy 42nd birthday Tyler! It’s definitely a milestone birthday for us offbeat types. I really enjoyed my year of being 42 and I hope you do too! Spoiler, I still don’t know the meaning of life, the universe, and everything but I think it might be something to do with love. A beautiful poem, you’ll find me either in the “escapism” section or maybe the “so well written it makes you feel emptied out and filled up all at once” aisle.
