What a beautiful tribute. Singing as a family is such a poignant thing in my memories too. My mother at the piano, kids around her singing songs from Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis… singing rounds in the car.
I hope one day my son thinks back on his childhood and thinks he had a magical one too.
My mother would pack us into the car at the crack of dawn as we traveled to a hiking trip or a group nature/bird watching walk. ... oh, how she had to keep me busy as I got bored to quickly being 4 and 3 years younger than my brothers. Giving me a crushed up Dramamine in honey so that I wouldn't get car sick as I rode in the far back of the car, sleeping mostly [no wonder]
She suffered from undiagnosed depression in those days [the '60's, that is] so she could be very distant from us. But when she was THERE ... such sweet memories that you have helped me remember. Thank you.
I love you Tyler. I love your warmth and loving nature. I'll keep reading if you keep writing. <3 Thank you for being you.
This is so beautiful. I just lost my mother last month, and I'm deeply worried that she didn't know how grateful I am to her for everything she did, gave, sacrificed, and created out of thin air. I miss her so much.
I really enjoyed listening to this and can only imagine what a feat that was for your Mom! When we are kids, it is so easy to judge or be critical of our moms, but my goodness, once we become "grown ups" and see just how incredibly hard it all is, there is a sense of awe and admiration that blossoms from the empathy of seeing them as humans. Of course each of us has our own experience, but I think it has taken me until my forties to truly see her as a person and not just through the jade-coloured lenses of a daughter seeing her mother. Cheers to all the Moms out there! Sounds like you've got a great one!

You had me crying too.
