What is the superstition with eye contact during a toast? I've never heard of that one!

People say that you'll have seven years of bad luck (or bad sex!) if you don't make eye contact during a toast. The superstition stems from the Middle Ages when it was a trust thing; if you were trying to poison someone and had put the poison in their drink, it was likely you'd stare at their glass instead of looking them in the eye. So if you could make + hold eye contact during the toast, then you were seen as trustworthy and honest.

Whoa!! I had no idea! Luckily, I think I probably pay attention when people are giving toasts!! I'll have to focus a little more and make sure I'm not bringing on any bad juju!!!! Thanks for the tip! ЁЯШК

The superstition is for the moment when you actually clink glasses and say "cheers" but hopefully you're not subjected to boring speeches for toasts!! ЁЯдЮЁЯШБ

Ahhhh! ok, excellent! I have had my equal share of excellent and boring toasts (and some wildly ugly but entertaining ones). But now, there will be extra attention paid, just in case - and extra love at the clink!
