Aristophanes once proclaimed, “Let each man exercise the art he knows best.” I find more truth in this that I can articulate, and I find more importance in it than I probably will explain in this newsletter.
I love this post because it gives freedom for all “art”.
I am a very wordy individual and many friends have said “you should write”...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t...
My art form is doodling...yes doodling!
When I attempt to actually “draw” something - it never comes out right - but there is a connection to the moment when I doodle.
My kids have several of my doodles as bookmarks or wall hangings (yeah, some get really big!). I also have some loose just lying around...I’ll send a few your way 📫
Until then - thank you for sharing your life thru art, Tyler!
Writing poetry and yoga classes, also love painting. I have 3 books about to be available and am currently working on one of all Haiku which I am loving
I’ve mentioned this before but writing in my journal has become an essential part of my well- being and sanity. Especially now, as I face new turmoil with my closest family, it has become an unbiased listener to my thoughts. It also allows me to work through my emotions so that I can feel better.
But more importantly, it’s a way for me to capture the simple, mundane, but extraordinary moments so that I can return to them later on when I’m feeling down.
Opening up to a blank page and typing on my keyboard feels like home.
First, I am sorry to hear of the turmoil :( I am, however, so glad you have a way to release any of the pressure that may build up. What a vital thing.
As a creative-minded person, my art and choice of expression varies. I knit and crochet, mostly small items like mittens, socks and scarves I give away (though I've learned to choose recipients carefully, as not everyone values handmade things, nor do they understand the time and thought that goes into to making them). I paint, but I'm no accomplished artist - what I end up with is sometimes on my walls, more frequently in a closet. It's more about the process. I write, sometimes in a journal, sometimes to get a story or piece of poetry out of my head. I enjoy taking pictures, mostly in nature or my dogs.
Knitting and Crochet is DEFINITELY an art form!!! My grandmother was a crochet genius and loved to crochet. Her blankets, doilies and attempt at a hat for me are some of my most cherished memories of her. Keep on shining your light thru 🧶
I think part of why I’ve struggled for a bit is that I wasn’t creating...anything. I know the minute I turn on music or pick up a good book and soak into someone else’s creation, I begin to feel better. For me, I bounce around-sometimes a little painting, or a little craft as a gift helps me get a little bit of love infused into an object
I love many art forms - music, film, reading, writing. I am almost always listening to music. Writing poetry has become my strongest art form over the years. I am also a filmmaker. I have been shooting wedding films for years and have fallen in love with that unique art form.
My art form is writing. I am not a poet, but creating and writing stories is what makes me feel most alive and connected to myself. I write for a living, but that is mostly news and technical writing. What I really love is writing fiction. I don’t have anything published, but that is a goal I am working toward.
I’m a singer songwriter and have been writing for many years. Not for money or fame, just because I like to write. I’ve recorded stuff and put it on Spotify and iTunes and have a bunch of music videos I did.
A couple of years ago I had my heart broken twice and I didn’t write. I stopped performing. I let my guitar sit alone.
Occasionally a song would appear and then, during lockdown, a whole load more appeared.
I just started recording what I hope will be my debut album (I only have EPs released at the moment).
Slowly the songs are coming back to me. I’ve been writing much more poetry recently, which has been great. One day I’ll publish some poetry. One day...
My form of art is writing. It's the only thing that can soothe my spirit and bring me some form of peace. I find it very hard to communicate verbally and when I do, it never quite comes out right. But when I write, it's everything I want my soul to sound like and more. My words hold my energy like a spell.
I love building things out of wood. Namely tables and chairs. Tables and chairs are where people gather to share food, drink and conversation. Memories are made, and ideas are discussed. There's just something about it that motivates me to put a piece of my heart into everything that I build.

Doodling ABSOLUTELY qualifies as art. I've actually always been jealous of doodlers, wishing I could draw in any way possible.
I doodle, too! I used to make mobiles from them and now I mainly take them and make them into color versions with oil pastels. Doodling is the best!!!

I love art so much, thank you for asking.
How fantastic! We need more art so badly.

I write poetry, song lyrics...basically words are my medium. I tend to use IG as a place for my more recent musings. IG @melyssabyogini
