Whatever we think we know of kindness, of loyalty, of giving ourselves away freely to those we love, we have so much to learn from our four legged friends. Dogs, more than almost any other kind of animal, anchor us to them through absolute selfless love. There are a million lessons to be learned from the way our animals love us, but the one that I keep coming back to is this: Give your love away to those in your life, give it even when they don’t return it, give it especially when they don’t deserve it. Give your love, your kindness, and your grace to those people you let into your life and show them what loyalty means. In no way does this mean allowing people to hurt you or walk on you, watch how quickly a dog will defend itself or those they love when someone threatens, but it means those that have earned your heart, deserve to be given it time and time again. Dogs make us love, and loving makes us more. There is no other way to say this.
Hearts pulled and anchored,
threads tangled up in their fur.
Loving makes us more.

I watch my dog sometimes. Its like she knows who likes animals and who doesn't. I'm very naive when it comes to people & sometimes wish that I could be more like my dog in that sense. Your post about 4 legged friends came at the right time. Tomorrow I need to take my daughter's hamster to be put down at the vet. I had him at the vet on Friday & he has an inoperable tumor close to his throat. So we had some time to spend with him, but he will eventually suffocate if we don't have this done. I'm sure people think that it's just a hamster, but this little guy has more character than most people I know. I'm completely devestated that I have to go take him for this tomorrow. We can learn so much from animals...big & small.
This is again so well-timed. I adopted a rescue dog myself, had him shipped from Humane Society in Kauai and basically got him sight unseen. I am so blessed and lucky! He's been so loving, fun and truly has changed my perspective. He was torn up by a wild pig and found on the road in Kauai, so he's still healing after 3 months, but he wakes me every morning with a lick and plays endlessly, at 3 years old. He loves his life and shows me that it's the simple things, having food, fresh air and someone to love, that is important. Here he is: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGBZOX6jNIm/?igshid=deubj8o1yio7
