Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It’s an Irish day today, we’re all Irish, all deserve to celebrate, all deserve to believe with our whole lucky heart that there’s something we’re destined for out there, just waiting for us to find it. For me, I know what it is already, I’ve known it all my life, and every step has been a slow advance on it: A simple life.

I don’t want fancy cars, I don’t want personal jets, I don’t want bank accounts flush with cash. I don’t want a mansion, I don’t want a massive closet filled with clothes or shoes, I don’t want a yacht on the ocean blue. I want a small house on a small plot of land, I want the sea beyond my doorstep, I want some beautiful forest nearby, I want mountains that hold mist and fog, I want the smell of peat smoke and brown bread baking on some rainy night, I want music that fills the walls of a place, that stretches them out, I want to wake every morning, wander the shoreline, maybe surf a spell, then eat a simple breakfast.

I know this year has tested us in ten million ways, I know we’ve all been hurting and longing, but my goodness, I don’t know if we’ve really stopped to assess the true trauma that it’s caused. Lost lives, lost work, lost movement, lost security, lost hope, it’s been a tough one for us all. I do believe, with all my heart though, if we can just hang on, we will get to the end of our rainbows, we will find our gold.

For now, Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Do something special for yourselves, even if it’s just green pancakes.
