“And while I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to earth…” wrote one of my favorite bands, in the song below. Frightened Rabbit spoke about making tiny changes to this earth while we’re around, still fighting and breathing and hoping for something better for each one of us. They sang about how we’re all in this thing together, that sometimes it’s frustrating, sometimes it seems just absolutely fucking laughable, but we’re all in it together. That we can make tiny changes while we’re alive, and those tiny changes just might add up to something absolutely beautiful.
I’m trying, every day I am trying and I hope you see this, to make my own tiny changes. To leave fingerprints on this place that stay, that show in some small way, from my own small corner of this planet, that I care and that I am with you, all of you, all the time.
We are all suffering, and the true depth of this suffering I think will be something we’re unpacking for years and years to come. Taken alone, taken individually, the loss of a friend or family member, the loss of a job, the loss of a way of life, the isolation we’re all facing, would be catastrophic life events and would be insanely difficult for anyone to process. On top of this, silently and stealthily all year, we’ve also been living in deep, deep fear of a virus that we cannot see, cannot truly fight, that could take someone we love, take us, at any moment. Trauma, folks. Trauma indeed, and I am so proud of all of us for enduring it. I am proud of this little community we’ve made, this group of people that loves one another, that reaches out to help, that listens. What a rare, beautiful thing we’ve made.
We're all suffering,
but if we reach out as one,
we will all be soothed.
