What do you call wanting less? What do you call aching for something smaller, something simpler? I know some language has a word for it, has an undefinable and impossible to translate word for what it means to look at your own life, then somehow instead of wishing for more of everything, be wishing for less. I want a simple house, haunted with friendly ghosts, and I know somewhere out there, it wants me, too. I want less square footage, I want less stuff to fill it. I want what we need, and little else, I want even the paltry amount of excess we may have, to be whittled down and reduced. A few good things that do the things they do well, and simply.
Make me a word for this, for this exact feeling, because it’s where I am and I think it’s where I’ll stay. My goodness, how I crave simplicity.
Simple little house
haunted in the best of ways,
wants to call us home.
