Friends, family, Light Chasers spread out across this beautiful planet, a quick message today to give you a heads-up on some little changes that’ll be happening here that I’m super excited about. Hold tight for a little TMI full-disclosure:

It’s been a really tough two years. For everyone. Sarah and I absolutely, positively included. I’m not complaining, the universe has things in store for everyone whether we like it or not, but we quite literally have not had a real paycheck since February of 2020. As traveling wedding/destination elopement photographers, when Covid reared its butt-ugly head, we watched over 30 weddings we had scheduled get canceled. In a flash, our income vanished, but our hope didn’t. This Signal Fire, this beautiful community, was born first and foremost as a way to get away from all things social media, and connect more directly with each and every one of you beautiful people that choose to support and follow me. I have been blown away and humbled and more than anything, inspired, by the community we are building. Those of you who have jumped behind the little paywall and are paid subscribers can testify, this place, this family we’re building, is magic. What I want to do, and what I’m going to try to accomplish, is grow that community even more.

Please know, if you are a free subscriber here, I am so beyond thankful for your trust, support, and willingness to let me into your email box a few times a week. The Sunday Edition of Signal Fire, and the weekly photo post will always be free, and will always show up unless disaster strikes me. That will never change. I know, as mentioned above, that times are f’ing hard, and for many, even $5 a month is a cost that’s just altogether unbearable. Due to this, in the coming months, I’m going to be offering up a little scholarship program for a few people each month, where I will choose some free subscribers to gift a free month of paid subscription. I want more people to experience this community, I want more people to see how magic it’s becoming.

Saying that, for all you paid subscribers, there are some more really exciting goodies coming for you soon. I cannot wait to do some live events, and make this place an even richer experience. For all you free subscribers, the only change you’ll see, is a preview of some of the amazing writing prompts, discussion threads, and extras that exist right beyond that little paywall. Substack created a little option for doing these sneak peeks, and I’m told that they are a fantastic way to grow your audience, introduce your community to more people in more places, and hopefully entice them to join up.

This note is just me being fully transparent as to what’s coming, and why. I love you all and value you so much, I didn’t want any free subscribers thinking I was being pushy, rude, or unappreciative. Trust me, that ain’t it, and never will be.

Here’s to wrapping up 2021 as fashionably and radly as possible, but even more, here’s to making 2022 the best year we possibly can. I love doing this Signal Fire, more than I’ve ever loved writing anything else, ever, and I would truly love to make it even more of the foundation of who I am, the work I create, and the career I love.
